Angie Smith is a native of Alexander City, but moved to Birmingham following law school in 2004. She is married to Milt Smith, a native of Birmingham, and they have two dogs, Gabby, 9, and Gunner, 8. Angie is a partner at the law firm Burr & Forman where she represents health care providers in litigation and regulatory matters. She enjoys spending time at Lake Martin where she grew up.
Angie was diagnosed with Stage 2A triple negative breast cancer in March 2023 after discovering a knot in her left breast that went undetected in a November 2022 mammogram. She began a clinical trial at UAB but transitioned to standard of care chemotherapy after her oncology team did not see the results it wanted from the chemical trial drugs. She completed chemotherapy in August 2023 and had a double mastectomy in September 2023, on her wedding anniversary. Angie’s chemotherapy resulted in complete pathological response, and there was no evidence of disease at the time of her mastectomy.
Angie credits her cancer experience with a new perspective on life and hopes that sharing her experience will help others facing the uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis.
