Ruby Fenton became all too familiar with cancer after losing her father, grandmother, aunt and great aunts to forms of the disease. Knowing her family history, her OB/GYN recommended she recieve genetic cancer testing. In 2009, Ruby learned she is a carrier for the BRCA 2 gene, making her genetically predisposed to developing certain cancers, including breast. After several years of annual MRI's and breast exams, Ruby made the decision to have a prophylactic double masectomy. Ruby says that surgery changed her life. "I wake up every day knowing I did something to help prolong my life, and to allow other women to know that their lives matter," she says. "Please use me as an example of what cancer can look like."
