Jennifer Strickland lives in Alabaster with her husband of 28 years, Brad, and their four furbabies. Jennifer graduated from the University of Montevallo with degrees in photography and accounting. She has been in the lending industry for over 25 years and currently works as a mortgage lender. When she is not working, she enjoys singing and making people laugh. She still has a strong passion for photography and has had her work published locally. A fun fact about Jennifer is that she was interviewed by Jay Leno for his JayWalking series and performed improv for an audience of about 80 people. After a mammogram in April 2022, Jennifer noticed a possible lump in her left breast that hurt more than normal. She received the official diagnosis of breast cancer on June 13, 2022. “Day one... SUCKS! Just get out all the emotions you need to get out. Day two, focus on these two questions: What am I supposed to learn? What am I supposed to do with this?” she says, when discussing her approach to the challenge of breast cancer. Knowing that losing her hair would be difficult, she decided to make it less sad by having a 'Punk Rock' themed head-shaving party and getting a mohawk. Jennifer was very open about her journey, posting 'Keeping It Real' updates about challenges with exhaustion, stomach issues and changes in taste. Even through the hard times, there were many moments that showed her how many wonderful people were in her life. She learned that she needed to educate others undergoing treatment, as well as their supporters and advocate for their care. Forge provided her the answer to “What am I supposed to do." Jennifer became a peer volunteer and strives to educate others about breast cancer and the resources that Forge provides. After chemotherapy and 24 biopsies, Jennifer is cancer free. To anyone on this journey, Jennifer says, “Trust the process. Tell yourself every day that you are the healthiest cancer patient in the state, and know that every emotion you feel is the right one for you. TITS UP!”
