JoAnna Brown went for her annual check-up and mammogram in January 2021 and then again in February 2021. In February, her medical providers found a suspicious “spot” and did a needle biopsy. Her doctor confirmed it was cancer.

"At that very moment I decided not to research anything – I didn’t want to hear anyone’s horror story because 'JoAnna’s Journey' was going to be what God wanted it to be," she says. "I elected to have a double mastectomy and chemotherapy – although exhausted, I was extremely blessed! My husband shaved my head and I shaved his – he’s never gone back!"

She even had a wig party where a few of her friends and family helped pick out wigs – she wanted short and long depending on her mood!

"I am here today telling you – duty is ours… the result is God’s! Don’t allow your circumstances to get you down when your God is in control," says JoAnna. "There is power in words, and don’t allow anyone to speak negativity over your situation or life. Just like a rutter steers a ship, our tongue steers the direction in our life – your thoughts and outlook are powerful tools!"

She feels blessed from the scars that she has physically and mentally endured and thankful that those scars have made her into the person she is today.

"God keeps His promises, and I have a purpose to fulfill!"
